ABC Unified School District Instructional Resourses
Dear Teachers, Parents and Students:
ABC Unified is proud to offer all ABC Unified teachers and students on-demand educational digital video content through a new service called www.CaliforniaStreaming.org
All ABC teachers have access accounts which gives them the right to search an online database of over 50,000 digitized educational videos and related media. Today educational video content can be downloaded (saved to a teacher's computer) or streamed live (played live) over the internet to be shared with ABC students usually through the use of an LCD projector that allows an entire class to see and hear the video content as part of a teacher's lesson. No longer are teachers required to purchase video on tape or DVD formats.
California Streaming Home Intro to Cal Streaming Services California Steaming Informational Brochure 2006 Instructional Resources Today teachers utilize the power of the Internet to search instantly through thousands of video titles. CaliforniaStreaming leverages the power of the Internet to expand teachers' access to video content titles exponentially. In addition, a teacher may download a select "segment" of a video rather than an entire video that may not apply to a day's lesson. Teachers extend instructional time using only the most salient portions of an instructional video.
Teachers may keep all digitized video content they download to their computers for future use. CaliforniaStreaming aligns all of its media with the California standards.
In the near future, ABC students will also receive access to the same online educational video database at home and at school. Students can access online educational videos for projects, reports or as part of their teachers' online homework assignments. Teachers can create class specific "media sets" or lists of videos for their classes to watch. When students log-in they see their teachers' specific video postings to be viewed online.
Student accounts will be created during the second quarter.
California Streaming staff have made themselves available to participate in school by school staff development sessions typically integrated into school's regular staff meetings. If interested, a school's principal should contact Colin Sprigg, Director of Information and Technology.
